Tree PlantingAmerican River with Trees

Working collaboratively with the non-profit Sacramento Tree Foundation since 1982, Sacramento County has expanded urban forests and promotes the benefits of tree canopies. The County also supports the Sacramento Tree Foundation’s Greenprint initiative, aimed at doubling the region’s tree canopy during the next 40 years. The County’s municipal/zoning code also requires tree plantings with new landscaping development projects.

  • American River Ecosystem Restoration through Oak Tree Plantings - This program aims to restore trees along the portion of the American River that were destroyed by fire at the Sacramento County River Bend Park. More than 70 oak trees will be planted in four groves, and native vegetation will be planted in the tree groves’ understory.
