Provide Carpool-at-Work Incentives

Measure

The County will encourage in-person trips by County staff on official business to be conducted by carpool or public transit.

The efforts for this measure have not started.

Implementation

Provide carpool-at-work incentives (incentives to encourage employees in all departments to carpool between County offices and off-site meetings and field activities). Reimburse County employees for taking public transit for approved business travel.

Timeframe: Midterm

GHG Reduction Potential: Not quantified

Sector: Vehicles - On-Road

Target Indicator: Monthly employee logging of carpool and public transit use.

Status of Implementation

This measure was written pre-COVID and before the rapid and successful implementation of remote meeting technology.  Sacramento County has transitioned to Microsoft 365 and now utilizes its cloud file storage and team collaboration which has virtually eliminated the need to travel to other locations for meetings. Most travel by vehicle is either to utilize the equipment of a service vehicle, like a garbage truck or maintenance vehicle, or for a use for which carpool is not appropriate, such as with a social worker or code enforcement officer conducting investigations.
